On this Mother’s Day, the Migrants Resource Centre Canada extends our warmest and heartfelt wishes to all migrant mothers and mother figures across the globe.
Due to a lack of socio-economic opportunities in their home countries, many mothers make the difficult choice to search for work abroad in hopes of financially supporting their family.
As a migrant service institution, the MRCC sees the direct implications of family separation on these mothers. We listen to their stories of missing home and witness first-hand the mental and physical pain they bear just to send remittances back to their family. Many of these migrant mothers are farm workers and caregivers who farm our food and take care of our children so that they, too, can feed their families.
MRCC takes the time to listen and provide support to each of the migrant mothers who come to us for help through our three main programs. We provide Information and Referrals based on their experiences and are committed to learn about the issues and challenges important to them through Research and Advocacy campaigns. Our Education and Training workshops strive to equip migrant mothers who have been left behind by scam recruiters, exploitative employers, and inadequate policies with the tools and resources they need to understand their rights and responsibilities while advocating for themselves and their fellow workers.
To continue doing the work we do, MRCC is fundraising throughout May with a goal of $3,000 to provide support to migrant workers in the GTA. If you would like to help us reach our goal and support our work, please consider making a donation today or sharing our message. Your contribution, big or small, helps us continue supporting the amazing migrant mothers that make up our community.
Warm wishes,
The MRCC Team
